Blog Deep Dive- discussion board three

She’s laying in bed, phone to the left of her, iPad on her right. Head propped up against a pillow with the textbook flipped open on her chest. She reads line by line and after each chapter she sneaks a peek at her phone to check the time and if she had any notifications. She continues to read and after she finishes she sets the book down, finishes her homework and goes to bed. There are many things in which I should and will try to do differently. First off I will not do homework in my bed no matter how late it is, because it’s harder to focus on my work in my bed. I also will set my phone out of my sight so I am not tempted to look at it. The last thing I would change is doing my homework earlier so I’m not doing it at 10:00 pm at night.

First essay:

At first Benjamin solely reads the books fearing he would be behind if he didn’t finish them. But he soon realizes that there was no point because he couldn’t even remember each book from one another, it was almost as if he never even read them at all. He learned that the importance of reading wasn’t to just finish it but to really understand the story being told and also the mechanics of it. He needed to dive deep into the story to find the understanding and reason for it, and he did so by keeping a pen always on hand, jotting every possible thought he could about the story. He now understood that the importance of being a reader is being able to slow down and forget about the ending of the book. He had to think about each and every word, asking himself different questions in order to understand the book entirely. That’s what reading as a writer is, writing his readings out so he understands the mechanics of it. Currently I’m working on reading as a writer because I’ve just read parts of the story, trying to understand the mechanics of it better. And I hope I’ll continue to do this because it helps me understand the content of the book I’m reading.

Again she’s laying in bed but this time she’s on her iPad. She begins to write but after she pauses for a minute she deletes what she just wrote. Now stuck on this sentence, rewriting the sentence over and over trying to figure out how to change it. After a while she loses her train of thought and just continues. Continually writing, doubting the words in which she types out onto the ipad and trying to finish the story. Eventually she finishes it but she isn't satisfied, but she’s too tired to keep at it and eventually gives up. In the future I want to change some of the same things as I did for reading, but this time I want to slow down my thoughts. Some people may read too fast but not me. I write too fast. I’m thinking so fast and my hands can’t keep up with my thoughts, so it becomes a whole lot of gibberish. So, I want to change that and begin to slow down when I write.

Second essay:

The most important tips I took in while reading, Writing an Essay were “asking myself how much fun I can have writing this”(Joe Bunting), and the fact that I can jump around when writing. I tend to not enjoy writing essays because I feel like I can never write it like my teacher wants me to. So now I want to write it for my own enjoyment and not for others. I also tend to get stuck up on certain sections of my writing and it disturbs the whole process of my writing. Therefore I will not spend over ten minutes on a sentence trying to make it better, instead I will move onto the next and come back to it.
